How to play Jeopardy at home

A board, a host who reads well, and a fair way to buzz in.

Build the board

Pick 5 or 6 categories with 5 clues each, worth 100 to 500. Write clues as answers and have players respond as questions if you want it to feel like the show. A slideshow, a whiteboard or a free template maker all work.

Buzzing rules

  • No buzzing until the host finishes reading the clue.
  • The first buzz responds.
  • A wrong response loses the clue’s value, and the next buzz in line gets a try.
  • The player who answers correctly picks the next clue.

Final round

Give one last category. Players secretly write a wager up to their score, then the clue. Reveal answers and wagers one by one, last place first.

Tips for classrooms

Use teams of 3 to 4 so quiet students still play, and make every category a unit from the course. Review games stick better when every student has a buzzer, not just two volunteers.
