How it compares to hardware

A wired lockout set gives you a light and a beep for 8 to 10 players. Game Show Buzzer gives every player their own screen, ranks the whole room, and shows the host how close the second buzz was.

It does need phones or iPads for every player. If your players are young kids without devices, a kit may still be simpler.

What locks, and when

Buzzers are dark until the host opens the round. The first press wins. If the host marks it wrong, the next player in the order gets the question, and the rest stay locked until then.

How it works

  1. 1Open a room

The host taps Host a Game and gets a four-letter code, plus a QR code and a share link.

  2. 2Friends join

Players open the app on their own iPhone or iPad, type the code and a name. No shared Wi-Fi needed.

  3. 3First press wins

The host opens the round. Buzzes are ranked by when each phone was pressed.

Questions

How many buzzers?

Up to 100 players in one room.

What about lag?

The order comes from when each phone was pressed, not when its message arrived, so a slow connection doesn’t push anyone down the list.

Does it need an internet connection?

Yes. Each phone connects through the internet on Wi-Fi or cellular. They don’t need to share a network.
